Hanae Wilding is an established violist, composer, and teacher based in Perth, Western Australia. 
Hanae has a Bachelor of Classical Music: Instrumental with Honours (viola) from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). Hanae has been teaching privately for a few years and began teaching violin and viola at Frederick Irwin Anglican School in 2022. Currently at Frederick Irwin Anglican School, she teaches violin, viola, beginner piano, mentors chamber music and conducts the Senior String ensemble.

Hanae has also started playing in a new trio called Amami Trio that comprises of clarinet/saxophone, viola and harp, and is also a member of another ensemble called Amaré Strings. She is also currently composing different genres of compositions while also receiving commissions to write new pieces for different ensembles.

Hanae Wilding began learning to play the piano at age five years old. She attended a few student recitals, inspiring her to learn to play the violin beginning at the age of seven years. After four years of learning the violin, she began playing in the WA Youth Orchestras. She was awarded a violin scholarship into Rossmoyne Senior High School, and then received a scholarship to learn the viola. After high school, she auditioned on the viola for the Bachelor of Classical Music: Instrumental at WAAPA, and she also auditioned for Composition and Music Technology, receiving an offer for each Bachelor course. Hanae chose to study the Bachelor of Classical Music: Instrumental Performance and was encouraged by the staff at WAAPA to attend the composition classes.

At the end of 2018, Hanae performed in the Perth Symphony Orchestra and WAAPA ‘Under the Stars’ concert. November 2019, Hanae was commissioned to arrange a composition of an Australian Pop song which was performed by the Perth Symphony Orchestra and WAAPA students, including Hanae.

At the end of 2019 to the beginning of 2020, Hanae won a place Western Australia Symphony Orchestra (WASO) Fanfare Composition Competition, where she composed a 30 second fanfare which was performed and recorded by WASO brass musicians. This fanfare was commissioned to be played at the Heath Ledger Theatre during the Perth Festival 2020. During this process, she was mentored by James Ledger. In 2020, Hanae won a place in the Western Australia Symphony Orchestra Composition competition, where she composed a solo viola piece which was performed at the Perth Concert Hall by Alex Brogan, acting WASO Viola Principle. During this composition project, Hanae was mentored by both James Ledger and Alex Brogan.

During 2021 Hanae was invited to perform with Cygnus Arioso Summer Camp Program, the Orchestra Collective and the Banksia Ensemble – and has received offers of performance with the last two again. Hanae composed a viola duet piece titled ‘The Knight’s Dance’ for the ANSVS Viola Composition Competition and was awarded Highly Commended in the Viola Ensemble catergory. In 2021, She had performed as the WAAPA Strings Camerata Viola Principle, WAAPA Symphony orchestra and has been awarded the role of Viola Principle of the West Coast Philharmonic Orchestra in 2021 and 2022. In November of 2022, Hanae has performed in the Perth Orchestra Project, the South Perth Chamber Orchestra and the a2 Orchestra.


Hanae has been teaching privately for a few years now and began teaching violin and viola at Frederick Irwin Anglican School in 2022. Currently at Frederick Irwin Anglican School, she teaches violin, viola, beginner piano, mentors chamber music and conducts the Senior String ensemble.

Hanae completed her Bachelor of Classical Music: Instrumental with Honours as a student at WAAPA. During her recitals, Hanae incorporated some of her own original compositions to showcase to the audience her passion for performing and composing music. Currently, she is studying a Master of Arts in composition under the supervision of Lindsay Vickery and Jonathan Marshall.
